Surfing spots in South West Lombok

DESERT POINT. An isolated location. Australian surfers names it ‘Dessert Point’. The locals call it Bangko Bangko beach. The location is South West coast of Lombok. It is regarded as one of the best waves on the planet (Note that all opinions are purely without prejudice, and gathered from many surfers). Surf waves are most consistent from May to October. It can go weeks without waves, but just one Desert Point biggie will make the wait worth it. NOTE: Experienced surfer only.

Surfing Spots in Kuta and South coast Lombok – Great Surfing Location Tips

KUTA LOMBOK is a surfers paradise. Here the waves are excellent. There are many good surf spots, which include ‘Point X’ along the south coast.

GERUPUK BAY is approximately 7km east of Kuta. It is home to 5 surf spots. You can always get a good wave at Gerupuk. This surf location is accessible only by boat.

Inside Gerupuk is suitable for all levels. The Southwest swell makes it a great spot to surf. This surf spot is protected by the surrounding hills and hold 10ft solid.

Outside Gerupuk, also known as Gili Golong to the locals. It can hold 8-10ft breaks, but is best at 4-6ft breaks.

Don-Don is a perfect A-frame peak walling and bending both left and right. Ideal for all level of surfers. Can be good in any season as long as the winds are light. Works on any tide, with out going tide the best time.

Kid’s Point also known as Pelawangan. This is another right-hander, only breaks on the biggest days, but when it does break, its barrel all day long. Best on an incoming tide.

Are Guling is located on the west side of Kuta. It is accessible by boat and land. Best right hander break in the south coast. This surf spot can hold 8-10ft, but is best at 4-6ft

Seger Beach is 2 km from Kuta. It has a right break and occasionally a left. A good place when the swell drops. A good spot around October-April when the north west wind blows.

Mawi is 20 minutes drive west of Kuta. NOTE: Experienced surfer only. Best on mid tides and a south east trade wind from May-September. Mawi can produce consistent 8-10ft.

Ekas Bay is located east of Kuta. A 30 minutes drive by car and a 20 minutes boat ride across the bay. It has two spots: Outside Ekas and Inside Ekas.

Outside Ekas is a left hander from 5 ft onwards thta holds up to 10ft with huge drops. Best with south end wind on mid to high tides.

Inside Ekas. This surf spot is further inside the Ekas Bay. Low tides for the right hander and higher tides for the left which holds up to more than 12ft. On a good day it offers long rides and barrels.
